Tackling Glaucoma: Insights from Nishani Amerasinghe at 100% Optical
A must-see lecture on glaucoma and cataracts
Ms Amerasinghe will be delivering a lecture titled ‘Achieving Better Outcomes in Glaucoma Patients with Cataracts’ at 100% Optical on the main stage at Excel London between 2.15pm and 3.15pm on Sunday 2 March.
She is past president of the UK and Éire Glaucoma Society (UKEGS). The society is a non-profit national scientific society and part of the charity Glaucoma UK.
Specsavers’ clinical services director Giles Edmonds and director of professional advancement Paul Morris will also join her presenting the lecture.
The trio will delve into the growing burden of glaucoma in the UK and discuss the potential benefits of minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGs) and the need for a tailored approach for those who are glaucoma suspects or sufferers but also develop cataract.
The lecture will consider factors such as disease severity, glaucoma type, and overall eye health to achieve better long-term outcomes for patients.
Supporting glaucoma patients and caregivers
According to Mr Morris, the lecture will explore strategies to improve patient compliance, support caregivers, raise public awareness, and enhance the detection and management of glaucoma suspects.
‘Community eye care professionals are instrumental in educating patients about the importance of regular eye exams, particularly for those at higher risk,’ says Mr. Morris.
