MP Bradley Thomas recently met with the Specsavers Birmingham Home Visits team and Specsavers Bromsgrove to see how opticians and hearing experts are making a difference to customers and patients in their community and homes, supporting the NHS – and are ready to do more.
Mr Thomas, MP for Bromsgrove and the Villages, spoke to Faisal Hussain, director of Specsavers Birmingham Home Visits team, on Friday 15 November at a Pensioner’s Fair in Bromsgrove, about how they are delivering NHS services and providing vital access to ear care at home.
Faisal spoke to Mr Thomas about the importance of hearing checks and how the team offers free, NHS appointments to people who are unable to leave their home due to a physical or mental disability, mobility problems or an illness, allowing them to remain in the comfort of their own homes.
‘Hearing loss is one of the most common health conditions and the impact can be significant. Whether it’s wax removal, a hearing test or a hearing aid fitting that’s needed, we ensure residents of Bromsgrove and the surrounding areas can access the highest standard of care at home, without the need for unnecessary hospital appointments.’
Mr Thomas also visited the team at Specsavers, 131 High Street, Bromsgrove on Friday 13 December to find out more about their expertise and commitment to providing accessible eye and ear care to the community.
‘It was fascinating to hear about the training required for all members of the team, and how community opticians have the skills to play an even bigger part in delivering critical services in the community,’ Mr Thomas concludes.
Mark Gibson and Robina Sharif, store directors at Specsavers Bromsgrove, gave the MP a tour of the store, which recently underwent a refit to give it a brand new look and discussed the top of the range equipment available and the importance of eye health care.
‘We are locally owned and run,’ Robina comments. ‘With 30 years’ experience between myself and Mark, we’re proud to be at the heart of our community, providing exceptional eye health and hearing care as well as supporting local organisations and the local economy.’
‘The team are really committed to delivering the very best service to the community,’ Mark adds. ‘We’ve had many staff achievements, including Habiba Jesson-Khan who started with us as an optical assistant and is now completing a course to become a director.’
