Audiologist Sonam Sehemby looks back at Specsavers Professional Advancement Conference 2025, which was open to all clinicians

With almost 500 audiology clinicians attending, we enjoyed a day dedicated to professional growth, clinical innovation, and shared purpose.

This year’s agenda was designed to offer something for everyone - from early-career professionals to experienced clinicians - with a strong focus on practical learning, patient-centred care, and insights into the future of audiology and emerging technology advancements.

Highlights

Opening keynote: Dr Justin Zakis introduced us to the next-generation fitting system, NAL-NL3, and the role of AI in shaping future clinical tools. Dr Zakis explored the key differences between NL2 and NL3 and how AI integration can support us in all areas of the customer journey.

Breakout sessions: Topics ranged from ENT referral pathways and dementia care to diagnostic tools, and compassionate communication.

Specsavers Professional Advancement Conference 2025,This year also saw the introduction of Specsavers new student track, allowing us to deliver sessions to support those completing an audiology training programme.

From the HCPC discussing professional registration to our very own clinical trainers prepping all students for OSCEs, the feedback was brilliant and something we’ll certainly be seeing more of at future conferences.

Panel discussions: Returning this year, was our panel discussions and Q&A sessions. We explored career journeys in audiology, professional identity, and accessibility in practice — with powerful contributions from Learn with ESS and colleagues.

Learning hub: Hearing aid suppliers delivered practical, drop-in sessions on reducing returns, engaging patients with accessories, and tailoring technology to individual needs.

Closing keynote: Professor Todd Ricketts offered a thought-provoking look at OTC vs prescription hearing aids, and what this means for clinical practice and patient outcomes.

Specsavers Professional Advancement Conference 2025,Even more inclusive

PAC was even more inclusive this year, offering childcare for under-fives in the form of a crèche provided next door in the Hyatt Hotel. This was new for this year and is something we will look to continue at future events where there is demand. Do share any feedback you have if you used the crèche facility.

PAC next year: 13 September 2026

Plans are underway for next year’s conference on Sunday 13 September. Get this date in your diary. Student clinicians will again be invited, with a limited number of free places to the universities that the conference partners with again too.
