What is the MiniPAC programme?

The MiniPAC 2026 programme is a continuing professional development initiative delivered by Specsavers. It began in Exeter in March and ran across 10 events, bringing together optometrists, dispensing opticians and contact lens opticians.

Grant Duncan, director of professional development at Specsavers, says:

‘The MiniPAC series is just one example of Specsavers commitment to continuing professional development for our clinicians.

‘A consistent theme was the development of Trusted Experts, encouraging confidence in clinical decision-making and a strong focus on evidence-based, patient-centred care.’

How does MiniPAC improve patient outcomes?

Five tracks of learning provided lectures, peer discussions and hands-on workshops, ensuring knowledge could be applied directly in practice. Clinical sessions covered glaucoma detection, monitoring and referral refinement, supporting the expanding role of community care in long-term condition management.

Exhibition spaces also showcased partner innovations, helping clinicians stay informed on new tools and approaches.

Mr Duncan adds:

‘The strength of MiniPAC lies in its blend of learning, collaboration and real-world application, helping clinicians deliver better outcomes for patients.’

Why does CPD matter in optical care?

Continuing professional development ensures clinicians remain up to date with evolving best practice, supporting safe, effective and patient-centred care.

The programme concluded on 7 June at the Leonardo Tower Bridge Hotel, with nearly 400 attendees at its largest event.
